Want to get involved with the Stanford Storytelling Project?

Here’s how:

  • SSP Email Sign up for our SSP Email list to get weekly updates on special events, podcast recommendations, and fun stuff happening at the Storytelling Project. Email Megan Calfas to sign up.
  • Open Editorial Attend our weekly Open Editorial, where we explore story craft and learn together how to create sound-rich narrative podcast episodes for our award-winning podcast State of the Human.  You’re welcome to drop in for any of our 12-1:30 Open Meetings, and our entire Storytelling staff is available to meeting with you about your stories during our SSP Jam time from 1:30-3.

    SSP Open Editorial Meetings

    Every Friday // 11:30am-12:30pm Meeting // 12:30-1:30 SSP Jam

    Lunch provided // fun guaranteed

  • Join a Show Team Work with other students and staff to develop a story for our podcast, State of the Human.  Show teams typically attend the weekly Open Editorial every Friday and then meet once a week outside of that to work on their episodes. You’re welcome to join a show team at any time, and this is a great way to learn at your own pace how to pitch stories, write scripts, conduct interviews, edit audio, score episodes, and learn sound design. If you’d like to learn how to produce stories for a narrative podcast and join one of our teams, come to a Friday Open Editorial or contact our managing editor Laura Joyce Davis.
  • Become a producer Every quarter, SSP hires a small group of students to lead show teams for our podcast, State of the Human, produce episodes of Off the Page (our partner podcast with Stanford Creative Writing), and help out with events and engagement. If you’re interested in becoming an SSP Producer, contact our Managing Editor, Laura Joyce Davis.
  • Storytelling Project Courses Take one of our courses. We offer courses every quarter in narrative craft, across a range of genre and media, and most do not have any prerequisites and satisfy a WAYS requirement.
  • Writer's Studio Come to one of our Writer’s Studio workshops and learn from expert storytellers. Most Mondays during the quarters.
  • StoryLab Make a StoryLab appointment.  Learn to tell a personal, research-based, or documentary story with one of our mentors.
  • Questions? If you want to get involved in some other ways—with our events, Story Exchanges, or anything else—just email storytelling@stanford.edu and tell us what you’re interested in. We’ll try to get back to you as soon as possible!
